A pro-abortion Californian man angry about the reversal of Roe v. Wade has pleaded guilty to the attempted assassination of US Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Nicholas John Roske, 29, was apprehended on 8 June 2022 near the Maryland home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Federal prosecutors said that Mr Roske flew from California with a firearm in his luggage and intended to kill Justice Kavanaugh. This week, the accused pleaded guilty.

US Attorney General Pamela Bondi said: “This calculated attempt on the life of a sitting US Supreme Court Justice was a heinous attack on the Court itself…

“Anyone who thinks they can use violence or intimidation to influence our courts will be met with the full force of the law and face up to life in prison.”

Under questioning, Mr Roske said he was upset about the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade following a leak of a draft copy. He was also angry about gun rights and recent school shootings.

Prosecutors also presented encrypted messages in which Mr Roske claimed he was “gonna stop roe v wade from being overturned” and thought he could kill up to three Supreme Court justices.

Mr Roske will be sentenced on 3 October.

Justice Kavanaugh was one of five justices who voted to overturn the federal right to abortion established by the Supreme’s Court Roe. v Wade ruling in 1973.

Violence against pro-life individuals and groups surged after the leak indicating the draft repeal.

One study found that pro-abortion attacks increased by 22x between 3 May and 24 September 2022, when there were 135 attacks on pro-life individuals and groups compared with just six against pro-abortion advocates, according to the US Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC)

One pro-abortion militant group, Jane’s Revenge, stated that it would “find joy” in targeting pro-life people with violence.

This month, pro-life journalist Savannah Craven Antao, 23, was assaulted by a pro-abortion member of the public during an interview in New York. Ms Antao was left bloodied and requiring stitches.

Speaking after the attack, Mrs Antao said: “Many abortion supporters, they don’t like a differing opinion – they don’t like their opinion to be challenged.”

“The truth is, abortion is violence, and it creates violence”, she continued. “And this is what abortion does to people. It hurts women, it hurts families, and it hurts babies.”

In the UK, pro-life students at the University of Manchester had to be given a police escort for their own safety after pro-abortion protestors blockaded an event at the campus Students’ Union on 28 March this year. Pro-life student groups are regularly subjected to abuse, protest and death threats.
